Beyonce is Home and Shopping semi-locally

Beyonce deserved a little retail therapy after the busy week she had.

The 31-year-old singer, whose net worth is estimated to be $300 million, must have given shoppers quite the surprise when she breezed into Target department store in Houston, Texas a day ahead of her scheduled concert.

Beyonce must have a closet full of accessories, but was in the mood for more as she made a beeline for the hats.

The entertainer, who's been on a relentless pace for her Mrs. Carter Show world tour, was seen trying on a few selections including a couple of wide-brimmed versions.

Her fabulous wig was loose and tousled around her shoulders, and she didn't seem to care if it got messy from the constant trying on of chapeaux.

It's widely known that Target is one of Beyonce's favorite stores and has staged publicity events with the chain for previous albums.

If you're interested in getting into shape like Beyonce and feel her energy there are some amazing workout classes that happen weekly at the House of Dereon Media Center, famously owned by Beyonce herself and her family. First is Zubma Fitness with Crystal Wall. She has lost over 40 pounds and is inspiring people all over to be healthier and make better life choices!

The second is Nightclub Cardio where exercise meets entertainment. Joy Winkler and Forest Petis take your workouts from boring to high energy fun teaching you the latest in dance moves to the hottest hits. People are losing weight, gaining confidence and increasing their joy through this class according to the website. Defiantly worth a try!

After Monday's concert in Houston, Beyonce will perform in Chicago, Illinois, St. Paul, Minnesota and Detroit, Michigan before heading on to Canada...but who's to say, she might show up to one of these classes. After all, they do happen on Monday nights and they are before her concert time....

Houstonian Releases A Lost Interview with Star Trek Creator Gene Roddenberry

RARE 1973 PHONE CHAT GIVES INCITE INTO THE BIRTH OF STAR TREK

Former Houston radio and television personality Scott Arthur was spring cleaning recently when he came across a telephone interview he did with the “Father” of Star Trek in 1973.

“It’s 40 years ago almost to the day.”Scott said. “I was a young DJ at WARM radio in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Roddenberry was scheduled to speak at a local college and I got his phone number and set up an interview to promote the event in advance.” said the Texas Radio Hall of Famer.

To put this in context, the original Star Trek series (Star Trek TOS) ran 79 episodes on NBC from 1966-1969 and then was canceled. The interview took place about the time determined “Trekkies” began a nationwide campaign petitioning the network to bring the series back to TV. It seems the show began to build a cult following after it aired in prime time and was banished to “re-run land”. The network chiefs felt the series and the concept had no future … that was 12 feature films and 5 separate TV series ago. This multi-million dollar franchise also includes Star Trek comics, merchandise, novels and even games.

“Before I began rolling tape ….he told me that the TV set was going to be the center of our lives. He said, your TV will have a typewriter in front of it – and open up the world to you. Just a glimpse of his genius and vision.” said Scott. “With all the hype of the new Trek Movie – this is fun to listen to. He shares how they invented the Spock character and was told to hide him, what the woman’s lib movement forced him to do  … and what inspired the Transporter.”

ABOUT FEAST WITH THE BEASTS

Launched in the fall of 2006 as a fundraiser for the Houston Zoo, Feast with the Beasts was an instant hit! The Zoo’s naturally wild environment and 6,000 animals offer an unprecedented venue for this wine, beer and food event.
  • The 2006 event had 33 restaurant participants. The event has grown to feature more than 50 Houston-area restaurants, all serving their best dish.
  • In 2008 we added the Beastly Battle – a chance for guests to vote for their favorite cuisine. In 2009 we added a Dessert Corner featuring sweet treats.
  • We had record attendance at the 2010 event, and tickets sold out weeks in advance. With great restaurants like Taste of Texas, Crapitto's Cucina Italiana, The Melting Pot and more, plus a rockin' show by the Spin Doctors, Feast with the Beasts was the place to be!

This year’s event features 65 of Houston’s hottest restaurants, a craft beer selection in the Zoo Brew Garden presented by Saint Arnolds, special animal presentations and feedings presented by H-E-B, and a live performance by The B-52s.
