DMB - The Filter Effect

DISH got a wonderful email last night...a friend from college works for Clorox which is owned by the same parent company who owns Brita Water Filters. The news was they had just hours before inked a GREAT DEAL with the Dave Matthews Band to support their summer tour and help it be more GREEN (DISH'S favorite word aside from FREE)!!!

There will be Hydration Stations at the shows provided by Brita to encourage fans to not buy bottled water and to keep the concert venue clear of plastic bottles!

This is part of the Passion for Music. Passion for the Planet project Brita started. The project's mission is "Helping the music industry go green by reducing plastic bottled water waste."

The Music Project works with fans and artists like Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, Lady Antebellum, Guster, O.A.R. and Janelle Monáe to make concerts more sustainable by using Brita® filtered water and a reusable bottle instead of bottled water, saving more than 345 million plastic bottles from potentially ending up in landfills.

For the Music Project to succeed, it’s up to you – music fans.

Check out these actions and make your difference today. Also, follow them on Facebook to learn about exclusive giveaways and watch videos from the road.

Take the pledge to use a Brita® pitcher and a reusable bottle. Backstage at the DMB Caravan Tour, Brita® pitchers were used to save more than 20,000 plastic bottles.

Recycle your Brita® filter after about two months of use. Go green at home like your favorite artists - each filter can save 300 bottles from landfills. Need a reminder?

Spread the word and get involved by sharing the Music Project with your friends!

OH! and since the DMB show (with opening band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros)...DISH will have a review for you tomorrow =)

ABOUT FEAST WITH THE BEASTS

Launched in the fall of 2006 as a fundraiser for the Houston Zoo, Feast with the Beasts was an instant hit! The Zoo’s naturally wild environment and 6,000 animals offer an unprecedented venue for this wine, beer and food event.
  • The 2006 event had 33 restaurant participants. The event has grown to feature more than 50 Houston-area restaurants, all serving their best dish.
  • In 2008 we added the Beastly Battle – a chance for guests to vote for their favorite cuisine. In 2009 we added a Dessert Corner featuring sweet treats.
  • We had record attendance at the 2010 event, and tickets sold out weeks in advance. With great restaurants like Taste of Texas, Crapitto's Cucina Italiana, The Melting Pot and more, plus a rockin' show by the Spin Doctors, Feast with the Beasts was the place to be!

This year’s event features 65 of Houston’s hottest restaurants, a craft beer selection in the Zoo Brew Garden presented by Saint Arnolds, special animal presentations and feedings presented by H-E-B, and a live performance by The B-52s.

Stressful Troubles

Oh DISHIES! The past few weeks have been trying over here at the DISH offices. The head DISH has been sick and not able to perform her normal and usual duties! That's put everything off course, but there is good news! Now that Labor day is over and done with along with white shoes, pants and linen anything...we are ready to press on!

We hope your Labor Day was restful and delicious as it should have been!

Here is a song from one of DISH'S best friends and one of the Texas'...nay...the world's greatest talents...RUTHIE FOSTER!!!!

Remember, they are only problems and troubles if you let them be.

Blessings and love DISHIES!

Houston Press Music Awards

This past Sunday night, 52 bands took the stage at eleven different venues to perform for votes to be the best band in Houston. With a single pass getting you into each venue, it was easy for any music lover to pull a Michael Jackson and OVERDOSE...wait...too soon?? oh well anyway,  It was impossible to see all the fantastic musicians, but STP Images shot a few venues including the House of Blues and the Hard Rock Cafe.

While the event was rather spread out, there were several clubs that were within walking distance of each other and made jumping from band to band much easier. The Houston Press also provided little pocket schedules for everyone, although it made me feel a bit like a high school freshman trying to triangulate where we were and where we needed to be!

Momentum Audi sponsored the event and provided a hospitality room at the Founder’s Room at the House of Blues. It was a great night of entertainment! There were a lot of things done right by the organizers, but there are some things that can be improved for next year as well. Take a look at a few of the bands we caught. Some of the shots below include Beetle, LL Cooper, Indiginis, D.R.U.M., Peekaboo Theoryand Mechanical Boy.
