Twestival Houston!!!
Hundreds of folks will come together in person, on line, offline, to support local charities by hosting local events to have fun and create awareness. Twestival™ uses social media for social good. All of the local events are organized 100% by volunteers, and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go directly to the benefiting nonprofit organization to aide their service projects.
Twestival Houston brings together Houston’s vibrant new media community for a good cause, giving those who communicate through Twitter the opportunity to meet each other face to face and enhance the relationships they have built online, while raising money for a deserving charity through sponsorships and donations.
The Impact of Twestival
Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but work from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact. Since 2009 over 200 cities have participated by hosting offline events raising close to $1.2 million for 137 causes; most notably for Concern Worldwide’s education programs and Charity:Water, which brings clean water to communities all over the world. Houston’s last local Twestival raised over $3000 for Houston Area Women’s Center in 2009.

Neighborhood Centers Inc has been working in the Houston area for over 100 years. They built the first community center and still operate under the idea that the people will thrive if their community offers the resources to aide in success. They offer financial counseling, education, healthcare and community building in 6 program areas, 58 affiliate centers and 6 major community centers throughout Houston and Harris County.
Funds will go toward community-based initiatives, providing classes and activities to educate youth and families through six community centers, focusing on youth development, health & wellness, financial strength and more. Bands Tyagaraja 8:45 - 9:15

Cirque du Soleil Returns to Houston with OVO
And of course DISH is giving away tickets!!
We are so excited!! The first visible sign of the arrival of Cirque du Soleil and its live production OVO in Houston is the raising of the blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) and the Cirque du Soleil Village. This event took place yesterday afternoon at Sam Houston Race Park where a team of 60-plus men and women hoisted more than 100 steel poles from the ground up.
A few technical facts on the Grand Chapiteau and the Cirque du Soleil Village:
- The Grand Chapiteau stands 66 feet high and is 167 feet in diameter.
- 550 pegs are required to hold the Grand Chapiteau firmly to the ~48,000 square feet of asphalt and the 4 masts stand at 80 feet tall each.
- The Grand Chapiteau can accommodate more than 2,600 people.
- The entire site set-up includes installation of entrance, hospitality and rehearsal tents, box office, administrative offices and kitchen.
- The Grand Chapiteau, the Tapis Rouge and Artistic tents are all climate control with air conditioning in warm season or heating for colder season.
- OVO travels via 61 trailers carrying more than 1,000 tons of equipment for the tour.

Additional performances
Nine additional performances have been added to the engagement, the show will now be in town from March 10 to April 10 inclusively. Tickets for these 9 shows will be available as of March 6 through CLICK HERE to BUY TIX or by phone at 1 800 450-1480.
Performance schedule
Tuesdays thru Thursday at 8:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.; the show is dark on Mondays. Exceptions: no 4 pm performances on March 11 and 18; no performance on April 5 and 2 performances (4 pm and 8 pm) on Thursday April 7.

Carmen Marc Valvo: Designer to the Stars Launches Book in Houston
Having established a solid reputation with his Collection line, Valvo launched Carmen Marc Valvo Couture in 1998, in response to overwhelming demand from his celebrity and VIP clients, who wanted original Carmen Marc Valvo creations that would set them apart from the fashion pack. The Couture collection is presented twice a year during the New York Fashion Week. These lavish presentations highlight the extraordinary craftsmanship and painstaking hand-detailing that place the Couture collection in a league of its own. Carmen is an Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) Ambassador and has given both his time and money to the organization, which has helped raise Millions of dollars for Colon Cancer Research. Carmen has always utilized his designs to help with many causes over the years, but especially the NCCRA (National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance). As a colon cancer survivor, Carmen Marc Valvo has been working with Katie Couric, since she partnered with 7th on Sixth in 2004, to bring attention and support of research of this deadly disease. His efforts, on behalf of the organization, were honored at a gala in March 2006 in New York where Carmen received the first ever Advocate Award from Katie Couric. In 2008 Carmen appeared with his dear friend Vanessa Williams in a national broadcast and print public service campaign to encourage early screening for colon cancer.
