America's River Oaks is all about Cohesion!

For the past month or so Americas River Oaks location has been THE place for the Thursday night gatherings...more over, it's all been for a greater cause!

This most recent Cohesion Thursday Night benefited the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline and was kicked off by Houston's own treasure Joanne King Herring! The legend provided a sneak peak into her soon-to-be released book "Diamonds and Diplomacy: My Wars from the Boardroom to the Battlefield".

Attendees enjoyed gourmet Icing cupcakes (personally delivered by co-owner Reyne Haines for Ms. Herring), Americas famous lobster corndogs, and special Skyline Martinis that are served at each important Rotary Skyline event!

Kicking off the evening, Bellaire Councilman and founder of Rotary Skyline, Corbett Daniel Parker moderated a discussion with Ms. Herring on current affairs in the Middle East.

Just like the first three “COHESION Thursday Nights,” the place was packed with young professionals enjoying a late night drink by the time neuroscientist-turned-Houston’s hottest drummer Don Vaughn and DJ Pinch hit the stage. Americas donates a percentage of this week's bar sales back to Rotary Skyline.

DISH absolutely can't wait and will see you tonight with BELLS ON!!!

UNT Goes Vegan

There is truth to the saying, "If you build it they will come". The University of North Texas gives the heave ho to the freshman 15 with an all-vegan dinning hall!

What a great way to lead the way UNT!!!

The vegan dinning hall is called "Mean Greens" and their website says:

“Vegan dining is not just for vegans but for all who seek to eat a balanced diet that offers a host of health benefits. In addition to tasting good and being good for you; vegan dining is sustainable and helps to reduce our carbon footprint which is good for the earth.”

Checked out Mean Green's menu! DISH wants to go eat there!

Now don't misunderstand, the entire campus is not vegan. There are a total of 5 on campus dining halls and only Mean Green's is vegan. PLUS they still have the on campus fast food chains like Taco Bell and Chick Fil A.
However this is a great option for the kids and DISH feels is should be considered at all Universities! Esp Texas A&M where they can actually grow their own!

Care to go for a Spin??

Let's get those hoops out, DISHIES for a delish time and a great cause!

MAM'S House of Ice Family is proud to be a part of this wonderful event Care2Spin.

Hula Hoop Houston happen August 28, 2011!

One goal is to raise money and awareness for Easter Seals, of course BUT the other goal is to setthe Guinness World Record(tm) of 3100 simultaneous Hula Hoopers! WOOHOO! That's a whole lotta hooping going on! It's happening at Discovery Green from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.! All funds raised will benefit those who receive free services from Easter Seals Greater Houston.

To set the record 3100 people are needed!

Now here's the kind of a pain in the backside part..but stay with DISH because it's worth it....

You have to register to Taking the Challenge... which will also create a fundraising page. THEN you need to share that page with your friends and ask them to either donate to your page or to Take the Challenge themselves and create their own fundraising page.

Here's why it's worth it...not just for the REALLY FUN Hooping Time...

1 in 5 Houstonians live with a disability. The state budget cuts caused 1 in 6 of these people to LOSE services such as respite care and early childhood intervention. We can make a difference and have fun. the fundraising goal is of $250,000 from the Hula Hoop event!

Get started now! See you AUGUST 28th. The thing that makes it easier is they will do walk up registrations...That's prob how DISH will do it!

See you there, DISHIES!
