Houston Gets Social
The Public Relations Society of America-Houston Chapter kicks off its annual PR Day conference on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Westin Galleria with one of the nation's most famous social media experts taking the lead Peter Shankman!!! The creater of HARO will be giving the key note - Delivering Value: Maximizing the Role of PR.
“We are delighted that Peter Shankman will serve as our keynote speaker and will conduct two workshops,” says Margot Dimond, PR Day committee co-chair and a principal at DoubleDimond Public Relations, LLC. “In today’s economy, companies are exploring social media as a cost effective avenue for building constituent relationships, promoting goods and services, crisis management, and even emergency response, so this program is very timely.”
Shankman is the author of Can We Do That? Outrageous PR Stunts That Work and Why Your Company Needs Them. He also manages worldwide clientele through his own marketing and PR strategy firm called the Geek Factory. His latest recognized work as founder of Help A Reporter Out (HARO), a site dedicated to generating reliable story leads, has journalists and PR professionals buzzing about his masterful use of this social networking tool.
Attendees may chose from a series of break-out sessions, including the lunch presentation by Shankman. Other sessions will cover crisis communications, using social media for crisis and emergency response communication, how public relations influences business outcomes, creating a diverse culture in the workplace, proving PR's value to the executive suite, and building a positive online reputation. Prominent members of the news media will also be on hand to talk about how social media is changing the way they do their jobs.
