It Takes a Village
We all know about the dangers of drunk drivers and drunk driving. It's been pounded into our minds since we were old enough to know about the horrors it could cause and unfortunately in some cases, as DISH knows all too well, people find out the hard way that drinking and driving can change or take a life in seconds. DISHIE Kristi Hoss Schiller is an inspiration today because she took a terrifying moment and turned it into a self empowering one. Here is the account of what happened today in her words.
Driving back from my ranch a drunk nearly killed my daighter and me in his Lexus SUV. After that he nearly took out 2 dozen plus other cars with his erratic driving. He was clipping the median, crossing the four lanes and then hitting the ditches. I chased him for 50 miles through Grimes and Waller counties, then Jersey Village. It seemed like forever butthen finally HPD, via four police dispatchers were able to come to our rescue and arrested him. They estimate he was 4X the legal limit!
DISH of course had to tell Mrs. Schiller how brave she was! What she did was dangerous and brave but her response was even more inspirational.
I would have hoped someone else would have done the same. The real heros were HPD! I realized watching them make the arrest how they put their life on the line every moment to keep us safe!
How inspirational!! And how true! I ask yuo DISHIES, how many of us would have done this?? She possibly saved so many people's lives by taking this matter into her hands! By being vigilant, protective and fearless she single handedly kept people alive today. DISH is so proud of Mrs. Schiller!
After emailing for a bit it was disturbing to learn this alledged drunk's reponse to being arrested was to tell everyone how he could buy his way out of it. REALLY??? Obviously he was not planning on encountering Mrs Schiller! What makes this experience even more amazing is her humility. After giving her yet another compliment on her actions today, she had this to say.
I just felt like, honestly, it was my civic duty --- I would not be feeling so heroic right now if he blew my head off. But I was almost in tears every time I would see him run another car off the road -- thinking of all the innocent victims he could have destroyed their lives -- all the hundreds of people he affected just by taking those drinks and getting behind the wheel!
WOW. Since we are giving out awards today: Mrs. Kristi Hoss Schiller...DISH Hero Award =)
DISHIES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE we beg you to drink responsibly. always have cab money or a designated driver. No moment of ending your life or taking another person's will ever be worth getting behind the wheel after you've had too much to drink. Please think BEFORE you drink!
