The school board decided this week that a 5-year-old boy cannot go to school with long hair. Adriel Arocha has never cut his hair. His mother puts his hair in braids every morning, but now his two braids are the center of a controversy.

 

The Needville School Board held a public hearing on whether to allow Adriel to keep his long hair despite their dress code rules that specify boys cannot have hair below the collar. Adriel's father said his hair is part of their Native American heritage.

 

"It's our ancestry. It shows where we came from; it's wisdom and strength," said Kenney Arocha. 

"I'm just afraid if the district gives in, other problems will occur in the future," said Shelly Sullivan, a former Needville student. The superintendent said he had already denied any changes, but on different grounds. "The child is not enrolled, not a student," said Superintendent Curtis Rhodes. 

 

The family, however, have said they're moving into a house inside the district in a few weeks and the district will have to deal with Adriel's hair eventually.

 

"I really wasn't surprised. I knew they would say no," said Michelle Betenbaugh, Adriel's mother.

 

She said they still plan to enroll Adriel in school and will bring him to kindergarten his first day with long hair. She said if they're sent home, they'll try again the next day.

OOHH What smart people!

A Houston toddler died this weekend after being left in a hot car for an hour. Police questioned the boy’s mother, who said it was an accident. She is not being held responsible. DISH will continue to follow the story for you.

 

The Fiancée of one of the victims in the Joe Horn case spoke out regarding the outcome of the hearing and this is what she had to say...

"I'm more than angry right now. Our lives have no value. Why -- because of the color of their skin. He shot them in the back. His life was never in danger. They never seen him. They didn't have a weapon. He shot them in the back," said Stephanie Storey, a victim's fiancé.

OK...well Stephanie, let's start with..NICE GRAMMER! We'll end with, Horn had no idea if these guys were armed or not and it didn't really matter because, and here's the kicker,  THEY WERE BREAKING INTO HIS NEIGHBORS HOUSE WITH INTENT TO ROB HIM BLIND!!!!!

What exactly did you expect him to do honey??? Call to them to get their attention and the ask kindly if they were armed before making his decision on weather to shoot them?? Just how dumb are you Steph???

This is not a joke. This really happened over the weekend. A car slammed into two police officers working traffic control at a construction site early Sunday, killing one and seriously injuring the other according to authorities said.

Reports say the car crashed through barricades, plowed into two of the three officers at the construction site on the Katy Freeway and tore the driver's side door off a patrol car. "There did not appear to be any braking on the part of the driver," Capt. Bruce Williams said. The driver was arrested but there were no immediate charges. Police said the driver's demeanor at the scene led them to believe he was intoxicated. At one point, they said, he was laughing at the officers. Officers Gary Gryder was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital and Officer Joe Pyland was listed in critical condition.

The Houston Police Officer's Union Web site said Gryder was a 25-year veteran of the force and was married with one son.

Pyland is a 1980 graduate of the Houston police academy.

Laredo has a no tolerance policy regarding illegal border crossers. If you are caught, you are immediately jailed, removed from the country and you can not legally apply for citizenship for 5 years. Reports say that this policy has severely cut down on the number of border crossing attempts. Can any one explain why the rest of the border towns have not adopted this policy??

This is also considered the death season for illegal border crossers because the weather is soooooooooooo tough. So far this death season, the number of dead illegal border crossers has been cut in half...IN HALF...in Laredo. Seeing as how we don't want anyone to die, DISH again asks....why has this policy not been adopted border wide???

I'm just askin'...

Seriously!! Not only do the majority of the channels pixelate and go silent then disappear, but now the entire weekend and still today the guide is not working. Every channel on the guide says, "To be Announced". What the heck is that???

A lawyer for state troopers says an infrared security system designed to detect intruders wasn’t working the night that an arsonist set fire to the governor’s mansion. The security system used infrared beams that would sound an alarm to troopers in a carriage house behind the mansion if someone got over the property walls. (BTW have you ever been in downtown Austin?? There are cops and troopers everywhere! There may have been only one trooper SLEEPING at the carriage house that night, but there could have been back up there in seconds. Did this trooper partake in one of DISH'S fav night time rituals, Lunesta???)

Don Dickson, an Austin lawyer who represents the Texas State Troopers Association, told the Houston Chronicle that one of his clients notified Department of Public Safety superiors that the system wasn’t working. DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange declined to comment, saying that the fire is still under investigation.

The DPS cut back its security at the 152-year-old mansion last year after Gov. Rick Perry and his wife moved out at the start of a $10 million renovation job. Only one trooper was on duty when the fire broke out early on the morning of June 8. (Only one trooper was on duty, but he didn't bother to do any walking around did he? Nice to know our troopers are problem solvers.)

State officials said this week that security cameras captured video of someone lighting an object and throwing it on the front porch. The fire caused extensive damage, although Perry said the mansion can be salvaged.

DPS authorized the return of the system to the manufacturer for repairs, said Edward Johnson, executive director of the Texas Facilities Commission, which is overseeing the mansion renovation but has no control over security. “If it were me that was in charge of security and I had my (alarm) system in the shop, I would have substituted that with armed guards at the gates or at all the corners,” Johnson said.  DISH AGREES!!! That my friend is what we call a DUH moment!

Dickson, the lawyers for the troopers group, said the officers frequently deal with broken-down gear.

“Equipment failures are not uncommon at the DPS,” he said.  “We have troopers all over Texas who have been notifying their supervisors that their cameras don’t work or this doesn’t work or that doesn’t work. And it’s hell getting them replaced.”

SOOO, here's a thought, you have the person on the property already, how about get out and walk around..ya know, a little foot patrol instead of relying on the cameras? How about doing work instead of sitting on your tukas? Heaven knows there are A LOT of cops that need a walk!

 

 

OK...Windows has this really annoying habit of downloading "updates" without your permission. Well it did it today on DISH'S computer and screwed everything up. Email stopped working and so did one of the messengers. So we lovingly uninstalled these "updates" and everything is back to normal except the biz email. WTF??? It's connected to the personal e mail and yet somehow only one of them can connect to the server?? DISH IS PISSED and wants to throw the computer out of the window...yes pun intended. However, we need it to work sooooooooo...we will be at the computer guru's place tomorrow...oh how we love Martin! =)

In the meantime we are checking the work email by phone...but if you are an avid DISH reader you know how amazing T- Mobile service is NOT therefore it may take some time for us to get back to you if you e us...please don't take it personally...blame Windows and T-Mobile. Boycott...DISH thinks we should boycott.

DISH has been a loyal T-Moble customer for 6 years and something has happened over the past 3 months that is sooo wrong!

All of the sudden our service is terrible! The brand new Sidekick 3 barely gets service, and the dropped calls are out of control. We suffer from drop call syndrome at least 4 or 5 times a day. Plus when we answer the phone or the call we are making connects after ringing, there is a horrible loud ear piercing static sound so you have to hang up and make the call again. T-Mobile...YOU ARE ON NOTICE! What we are getting at is...if you are looking to change your service, just don't switch to T-Mobile, it's the worst!

P.S. We are writing this because the final straw is the fact that we have not had service most of the day!
